Summer is here, but hypothermia is still a challenge

As Norway see temperatures rising sharply, and summer comes with long bright sunny days, it is still important to work hard on hypothermia protection.

In LESS AS we are presently working on new solutions for tunnel preparedness, involving both patient evacuation systems in general, and hypothermia protection in specific.

LESS Emergency Stretcher Rolling Kit includes emergency stretchers with excellent insulating properties together with Thermal bags and Carrying Harness’.

LESS Emergency Stretcher Rolling Kit is a good basis for preparedness, and has become a standard item within ambulance services, air ambulances and rescue organizations.  No other stretcher solution offers the same insulating properties as the LESS family of stretcher products.   Hypothermia protection is a core element in our overall rescue system, together with efficiency and time reduction in the evacuation process.

Norwegian mountain preparedness for Easter tourism

Winter conditions might turn away some of the regular visitors to mountain resorts this Easter.  But we in LESS AS have experienced higher demand than ever for our hypothermia protective products.  Preparedness seems to be higher on the agenda this year.

“Some serious recent accidents might explain the increased attention to preparedness” says Gunhild Elje Lindborg, Market Coordinator in LESS AS.

London HEMS with new proactive temperature management policy

Hypothermia research led to changes in procedures in London's Air Ambulance

“Conclusion This study confirmed that patients anaesthetised in the prehospital phase of care had a significantly lower admission body temperature. This has led to a change in the author’s prehospital practice.  Anaesthetised patients are now actively surface heated and have whole body insulation to prevent further heat loss in an attempt to conserve body temperature and improve outcome. This is an example of best in-hospital anaesthetic practice being carried out in the prehospital phase.”

New Emergency Rescue Unit

During 2011, LESS AS has upgraded and improved our successful concept of Emergency Rescue Unit.  This trailer solution now stands out as a complete solution for optimal patient evacuation, and efficient establishment of a patient clearing station.

This development incorporate key products to support a holistic evacuation strategy and rescue philosophy with focus on:

  • Reduced evacuation time
  • Improved hypothermia protection through the whole rescue chain
  • Less need to transfer patients from stretcher to stretcher, with the risk of additional damages
  • Reduced time required to establish a warm patient clearing station
  • Very efficient system for first triage, enabling better priority during evacuation

Turkey building preparedness with focus on hypothermia

A presentation of LESS AS in Dubai, UAE in January 2011 caught the eye of Turkish distributor NEST Medikal.  They have now secured a first order with Turkish Health Authorities, and preparedness will be improved with state-of-the-art evacuation equipment from LESS AS, including thermal emergency stretchers, thermal bags and thermal hoods.

Prevention of hypothermia is critical in many mass casualty incidents, and Turkey now take a lead in incorporating this in their preparedness set-up.

Practical Cold Guide

From the US Department of Health, we have looked at this practical guide to cold weather.

A practical guide for better preparedness.

LESS AS is committed to work for better preparedness against cold, and our solutions for mass casualty incidents are gaining acceptance.  LESS Thermal Bags are keeping an increasing number of injured warm and protected.

LESS products put to test in Oslo & Utoya

During the terrible July 22nd events in Oslo and Utoya, LESS products were up for a real test in a situation nobody thought was possible in Norway.  Fortunately, various organizations within Norwegian rescue have emphasized building preparedness in equipment and training.  It was evident during this unprecedented event that TAS-3 training from Norwegian Air Ambulance proved itself very useful for many of the rescue workers.

Preliminary reports from operational rescue workers are very positive as to the user friendliness and performance of our equipment.

Hypothermia prevention important in airport preparedness

AVINOR, owner of  a number of airports in arctic Norway, has again chosen LESS Emergency Stretchers for Svalbard Airport and Vigra Airport in Norway.  One of the key features that no other stretcher could offer, was good hypothermia protection.
